Marina management and operation at Royal Clarence Marina, Gosport, UK
Scheme description
Royal Clarence Yard is the Royal Navy’s former victualling yard currently being developed by Berkeley Homes (Hampshire) Ltd as a major mixed use development on the South Coast. The site is key to the regeneration on the emerging Gosport waterfront providing some 690 residential properties as well as retail and marine related commercial units. The site benefits from a naturally protected deepwater basin less than 10 minutes from the entrance of Portsmouth Harbour.
Role of Marina Projects
Appointed by Berkeley Homes in early 2002 Marina Projects Ltd were tasked with delivering the marina and associated pontoon berths to host competitors in the tall ships race in the summer of 2002. Following an initial feasibility study and development of an agreed masterplan Marina Projects embarked upon delivering the full range of licences and consents necessary to undertake maintenance dredging, and pontoon infrastructure works.
Working closely with Berkeley Homes the scope of works included the procurement and project management of the capital dredging contract, pontoon installation, marina services and interface with the residential development and associated infrastructure works.
Following the successful Tall Ships event Marina Projects Ltd established an operating company to deal with the day to day management of the marina business. The operating Company established a successful trading business until the site was sold-on by the Client.
Royal Clarence Marina has served to enhance the reputation of Marina Projects as a reputable and capable organisation providing the highest standards of customer service and support for the marine industry.
